Harvard Avenue Community School;

  1. Utilizes Direct Instruction (DI) to support literacy development in grades K- 2, with principal and staff discretion determining the need to extend DI to the intermediate level until students demonstrate proficiency in literacy skills.
  2. Uses a Balanced Literacy approach- Guided Reading and Writing- that will generally begin at grade 3.
  3. Utilizes Saxon Math, where all concepts are presented incrementally- in small, easily learned bit- and an increment is practiced many times before the next increment of that concept is presented.
  4. Utilizes Treasures and Triumphs which is an all-inclusive, cross –curricular literacy program that includes: Reading, Comprehension, Spelling, Grammar, and Writing Skills. It also includes and intervention component (Triumphs) which enables all children the tools needed to succeed. This curriculum program is aligned with the state's content standards, providing our students with information similar to what they will encounter on Ohio's Achievement Tests.
  5. Utilizes Ohio Science & Social Studies curriculum program, designed to give our students a wide scope of modern science and encourage historical awareness as it relates to our State, our Country, and our World.
